CMS establishes new code and separate therapeutic class "Injection, Immune Globulin, Subcutaneous"

A HCPCS application for a separate J Code for Vivaglobin®, Immune Globulin Subcutaneous has been submitted to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid.

The preliminary decision from CMS concerning this application states the establishment of a new code and separate therapeutic class, “Injection, Immune Globulin, Subcutaneous. In a Public Hearing on May 11, 2006 we requested a change in unit dosing from .5 grams to 1 ml as Vivaglobin® a 16% solution does not fit the .5 gram unit of measure.   ZLB Behring anticipates the assignment of this code sometime in October 2006.  The unique J-Code for immune globulin subcutaneous would be in effect beginning January 1, 2007. To date Vivaglobin® will be the only FDA approved drug in this therapeutic class.
