Our Commitment to Patients

At CSL Behring, we know that our mission and our business are all about our patients, so we demonstrate our commitment to the patient groups we serve in ways that go beyond the treatments we provide.

CSL Behring resources and services help patients and their families manage the daily challenges of living with a chronic disorder. We consider it our duty to:

  • Sponsor programs and support patient group activities that benefit people with bleeding disorders, primary immune deficiencies, and alpha1-proteinase deficiencies
  • Work with government authorities to help ensure that patients have access to appropriate care
  • Work to improve on and expand education and outreach efforts in our therapeutic areas
  • Operate educational Web sites as well as product Web sites that provide accurate, reliable disease information
  • Fund medical research internally and externally to improve the state of the patient groups we serve

CSL Behring demonstrates its commitment to patients by sponsoring programs that support patient group activities that benefit people with bleeding disorders, primary immune deficiencies and alpha1-proteinase inhibitor deficiencies.
Further, CSL Behring works closely with patient groups on a range of issues that affect them, providing everything from education to advocacy. We also work with legislators and regulators around the world to help ensure that patients can get access to safe, high-quality plasma-derived and recombinant products that are affordable and/or appropriately reimbursed.

Specific programs through which we support patient populations include:

  • A Patient Assistance Program operated by our Reimbursement Resource Center, through which we provide our medically necessary therapies to qualified patients who are uninsured or underinsured, or who otherwise cannot afford them. We also help patients on our therapies obtain effective health insurance coverage with fair reimbursement, and help them navigate the insurance appeals process.
  • CSL Behring Assurance, a program that helps people who rely on our therapies to continue receiving these vital treatments during lapses in their health insurance coverage.
  • CSL Behring's LEAD Program, which helps local advocacy organizations to develop their capacity for advocacy and public initiatives.
  • Our Web site hemophiliamoms.com, which provides illustrative stories from families dealing with hemophilia. The site includes provision access to the CSLB-supported Mom2Mom Blog, through which the moms and their families can share experiences, ask questions of one another, and offer emotional support in any manner they like, without any editorial input from CSL Behring.
  • Voice2Voice, a program in which users of subcutaneous immunoglobulins provide nonmedical support to newly prescribed users.
  • My Steps for Healthy Living, a program for the Alpha-1 community that encourages health maintenance through a program of regular walking and good advice from nurses familiar with the problems of Alpha-1 patients.
  • Several programs for the bleeding disorders community, including the Gettin' in the GameSM Junior National Championship, which encourages and teaches young people with bleeding disorders to take part in healthy athletic activities.

Other CSL Behring activities that benefit our patient populations include an annual holiday card art contest, regular reimbursement center alerts, and the GameFaces program for the hemophilia community. But above all is our ongoing research efforts to provide safe and effective treatments that will help these patients live longer and better lives.
